FC Augsburg video clip FC Augsburg – a club with strong regional roots

World-class stars such as Helmut Haller and Bernd Schuster, and international players like Karl-Heinz Riedle and Raimond Aumann, have all worn the FC Augsburg shirt. In 2011, FCA were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time – and have remained there fairly consistently ever since. Home matches are played at the WWK Arena – the world’s first CO₂-neutral football stadium. Pretty cool, isn’t it?

Lukas Petkov is a true home-grown talent: he has played for FCA since he was eight years old and has progressed through all the youth teams here. He comes from Mering and has made the leap from the youth ranks to the first team. In the 2021/2022 season, he was loaned to SC Verl to gain match experience. He has already played his first games on the big Bundesliga stage and has featured in many Bundesliga matches for FC Augsburg before being sold to SV Elversberg in the 2024/25 season.

They play their home games at the Curt-Frenzel-Stadion. And did you know? The AEV, which was founded back in 1878, has seen real ice hockey legends such as Leonhard Waitl, Paul Ambros, Ernst Köpf and Ernst Höfner play for the club.

Video clip: Canoe slalom on the Eiskanal Augsburger Eiskanal: Commitment and Club Life

A really cool canoe slalom course was built in Augsburg for the 1972 Summer Olympics – alongside venues in Munich and Kiel. The course is regarded as ‘the mother of all artificial canoe slalom courses’ and is still frequently used for international competitions today. The clubs Kanu Schwaben Augsburg and the Augsburger Kajak Verein have already produced several Olympic and world champions – truly impressive!

It’s not just professionals on the Augsburger Eiskanal – amateur athletes train here side by side too. The course is 308 metres long, the water rushes past at 3 to 6 metres per second and has it all: eddies, rollers and waves – so plenty of action!
Lena-Marie Bühler knows her stuff. She is an experienced canoe slalom athlete, studied in Augsburg and trains three times a week on the Eiskanal. She also coaches the club’s young talent. In a short clip, she shows you what makes her sport so special.
