A long history in the business location
A sustainable textile hub
Although the focus is on the future, the past still plays a role in the business location Aux. It has left its mark on the cityscape. One example is the textile district, where the Augsburg State Museum of Textiles and Industry (tim) is now located on the site of the former Augsburg worsted mill.
Furthermore, a number of textile companies, such as the three major outdoor brands Schöffel in Schwabmünchen, Deuter in Gersthofen, Tatonka in Dasing, as well as manomama and Degree Clothing, are still based in Aux.
The diesel engine comes from Augsburg
Did you know that Rudolf Diesel developed the engine named after him in Augsburg?
That was at the end of the 19th century, and his legacy lives on in the form of MAN Energy Solutions. The company manufactures large diesel engines and turbomachinery, and visitors to the MAN Museum can still marvel at the world’s oldest surviving diesel engine. Aviation also plays an important role in Aux, whilst long-established and family-run businesses are based in the region.
Fun fact: the well-known lemonade ‘Spezi’ comes from the Riegele brewery in Augsburg.

What makes the history of Aux and the surrounding area so special?
In the Wittelsbach region, the ‘cradle of Old Bavaria’, the 800-year history of the Wittelsbach dynasty began. Today, magnificent churches and imposing castles serve as a reminder of this. Sisi’s Palace, in particular, is well worth a visit. If we go even further back in history, the Romans also left their mark on Aux. In 8 BC, they founded ‘Augusta Vindelicum’, the foundation stone of today’s Augsburg. Jakob Fugger and Bartholomäus V. Welser were, and remain, significant figures in the city’s history; you can learn more about them at the Fugger and Welser Museum.
