Whether it’s weekly markets, farm shops or home delivery – Aux offers a wide range of options for consumers who value short supply chains and regional organic produce. Since 2019, there have been two projects funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry to drive sustainable agriculture: the Paartal Eco-Model Region in the district of Aichach-Friedberg and the Stadt.Land.Augsburg Eco-Model Region. This title is awarded to regions that wish to play a pioneering role in the production of local food.
Preserving regional cultural landscapes
These projects raise awareness of regional produce and promote sustainable agriculture. The aim is to preserve typical cultural landscapes, for example through transhumance or organic hemp cultivation. Since 2020, old Bavarian cereal varieties have also been cultivated again. The ‘BruderOx’ project is researching how all male organic calves can be reared in Aux and the Wittelsbach region.
From the region to your kitchen
Local produce is in high demand in Aux – as demonstrated by the success of the ‘mobile vegetable box’. Since 1995, Hermann Haas-Hübsch and Carina Hahn’s team have been delivering regional organic food directly to people’s homes. The boxes can be customised and the produce comes from suppliers who are paid a fair price.
The Ökokiste also clearly states the origin of its products. Anyone wishing to be even more closely involved with farming can join a community-supported agriculture (CSA) scheme: consumers support farmers with a fixed contribution and receive a share of the harvest. There are already several CSAs in Aux, for example in Augsburg-Bärenkeller and Schloss Blumenthal (in German).
Regional products at a glance
Even today, there are many dedicated people in Aux who are committed to the production and sale of regional food. Residents who buy local produce and make the most of the region’s diverse offerings help to develop our local area in a sustainable way – ensuring that Aux remains fit for the future.
